1988 acrylic on canvas 49.8 x 64.5 cm Fondazione Aligi Sassu e Helenita Olivares Lugano Sassu is an artist always attentive to the subject, both when its point of departure is reality and when it is inspired by myth or literature. In his most recent work, however, the pleasure of pure painting tends to take over, where color, the key element of his work, more or less released from conditionings of representation, can freely and triumphantly spread across the canvas. La foradada is the painting which perhaps best exemplifies this aspect of his recent production. In a free and dazzling explosion of reds we find given concrete form, without mediation or limits of any sort, a fundamental idea of Sassus art: that, in the end, "only painting has value." |
