ceramic mural
150 mq
Headquarters of the European Parliament
Brussels

Sassu had already approached the same subject at the beginning of the 1950s, in a fresco for the Hotel Mediterranée in Sanremo, which was subsequently detached and in 1973 placed with another work, L’origine della vita, in the Museo d’Arte Moderna in the Vatican. The version for the new seat of the European Parliament in Brussels, this time in the medium of ceramics, can be considered his most prestigious achievement in the project of public art which he has always pursued. The scene, dominated by the sun of Apollo, is a complex reworking of numerous themes taken from myth, connected with the classical Mediterranean world, which the artist has treated throughout his long career. At the center of the wall painting is represented Europa being carried away by Jupiter.
