In an undefined space, given a minimum of context by some essential structures outlined against the background - the anonymous buildings of a modern city - black figures are shown running; one has fallen down. A violent palette, playing on the contrast between red and yellow, lends further aggressiveness to the scene. In a moment of Italian history which was particularly tormented and deeply felt by the Italian people - 1968, the strikes of 1969, the terrorist years - political themes return to Sassu’s work, as manifested in an exemplary way in this work and another version with the same title, painted in the same year. Both are characterized by a billboard-like emphasis on the images, constructed using just a few, sharp colors. Once again we perceive here the tension of "clear language," one of the artist’s unchanging primary concerns.
