Sassu introduces a disquieting note into this scene set in a Maison Tellier (brothel), where two young prostitutes are finishing their meal, scraps of which still appear on a messy table: a completely black figure, cut in half by the edge of the canvas, leans his hand on the table. It is typical of his work of the 1940s that the artist investigates themes tied to the world of prostitution, taking up the literary topos of moral values that can sometimes emerge from sordid and marginal areas of society.
