Within the vein of his works on the theme of sports, Sassu here treats realistically the world of cyclists, in which he was an enthusiastic participant, giving the event a precise place in space and time: we are in the mountains at the end of a race, as indicated by the ribbon in the background on the left. The athletes, mythical, heroic figures for the two boys who look at them with shy curiosity, wearing the racing shirts of that period, exchange their impressions of the race. The central figure, onto whom the gazes of the two lateral figures converge, is alone, busy dealing with a flat tire. The artist offers us a view of a real situation but at the same time continues to play on the borderline between the current moment and myth.
