The theme of sports immediately became one of Sassu’s favorites. In particular, the subject of fighters - a world with which Sassu was familiar not only in Italy but also during his stays in Paris - appears especially close to the interest he manifested in that period in expressions of modernity and dynamism. This version offers an example of painting still influenced by Futurism: the flat, shrill colors and geometrization of the forms tend toward a strongly synthetic, practically abstract image.
