1929 pastel on cardboard 40 x 31 cm Fondazione Aligi Sassu e Helenita Olivares Lugano The Factory of 1929 marks a possibility for development that is only hinted and in fact ends here. It is a curious but brilliantly resolved composition in which, beyond a rather dizzylingly tilted foreground, dominates a futuristic view consisting of a section of viaduct and a smoking chimney oddly stuck on a structure that, turned upside down, resembles the shed of an industrial factory. This is another instance of his treatment of the theme of work, whose characteristics of form and content appear here to have moved, with respect to the Futurism of the new generation, much more in the direction of the syntheses and utopias of the Constructivist sphere in Milan, which has never been studied in depth. |
