1927 oil on cardboard 48 x 28 cm private collection The Milanese section of the bastions of Porta Venezia recurs often in Sassus production; he could in fact observe it directly from the balcony of his apartment on Piazza Oberdan. The representation of the urban reality surrounding him, a theme typical of futurism, is here rendered with a particular emphasis on the volumes, made to resemble geometric shapes and underlined by shades of blue, green, white, yellow, and red, spread in flat colors. Also of 1927 is an analogous Study for Porta Venezia, smaller in size, in colored pencils on paper. |
